Puppy and Dog Purchase Contract/Instructions
Diet: Our puppies are reared on a "BARF" diet you can read the details of this diet under a dedicated page on our website. This diet contains everything necessary to help your puppy develop to its full potential so there is no need for additional supplements.
- · During its initial stages the puppy should be on 3 feeds per day until the age of six (6) months when this can be reduced to two (2) continuing till one (1) year when a single feed per day will be sufficient.
- · You will be given a set supply of this diet when you collect your puppy. With recommendations for suppliers that you can progress your own supply.
- · Water: Please keep a fresh supply of water available at all times, remember to change this regularly throughout the day.
Immunisation: Your puppy is protected from many diseases by the antibodies supplied in their mothers milk, however this naturally supplied immunity depletes rapidly until it becomes virtually non existent. All our puppies are vaccinated at 7 weeks - after you take ownership its your responsibility to insure that the correct second vaccination and continued inoculation levels continue.
Identification: All our puppies are systematically Tattooed for formal identification. This registration will be transferred to your details.
Socialisation: Whilst in our care your puppy will have experienced a wide variety of sights, sounds, feelings, smells and vibrations (the rearing area is like “Kids Zone” without a climbing frame or stairs). Your puppy will be handled by as many people as I can muster from a safe age, and all puppies will even be taken out into a vehicle for habitulisation. Your puppy will be introduced to my other dogs and will essentially have a great start to its life with you - you need to continue that effort by taking your puppy to safe areas whilst under inoculation e.g. Carry it to the local school, carry into "Pets At home", take the puppy out in the car regularly.
Formal Training: All our puppies are expected to go to some form of working or competition home. It is therefore expected that each puppy will undergo some form of formalised/structured training so that they firstly become good members of society (1st and foremost). Even though we may be teaching you to suck egg's you will be given basic a "Puppy Training" book when you pickup your puppy - this explains all the basic's from toilet training to what they should or shouldn't be allowed to play with.
Exercise: Until your puppy is at least 12 months old, do not allow him/her to undergo any heavy prolonged exercise - basic play is enough during this skeletal development period (no walks over a few hundred yards, no excessive jumping, no climbing up and down stairs). You will have enough time to enjoy long country walks with your dog later - as long as you don't overdo it early on.
Kennel Club Endorsements: In our discussions around your prospective puppy we will discuss the KC endorsement criteria.
Worming: Your puppy has been wormed from 2 Weeks. Firstly on "Sherley Liquid Puppy Wormer" and then on "Drontal Puppy Liquid Wormer" - each dose is separated by a two (2) week period. Please consult your Veterinary for further treatments after you take possession of your puppy.
Puppy Crates/Pens: I personally feel that these can be invaluable in the training and settling of your puppy and I would recommend you invest in one before taking possession of your pup. They offer a safe haven for your puppy and an additional "Chill Out" area should they need the additional control.
Insurance: Your puppy will come with 6 weeks free insurance as standard. These policies give peace of mind and security in your ownership and I would recommend that when contacted you formalise and continue that insurance.
Re-homing: Whilst nobody likes to re-home their beloved animals sometimes it is necessary due to difficulties in the home, someone's health or a change in circumstances. If re-homing is necessary we always insist that we be given “first” refusal to either re-home the dog back into ROYALHAVEN GSD's or that we work to re-home the dog to another party on your behalf. This lightens the burden on you and instills our confidence that the dogs are always properly cared for.
FINALLY BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY - ENJOY YOUR LIFE TOGETHER !!
